Guidelines for the preparation of IQ portion of Nust

Intelligence portion is a part of all the tests conducted by Nust. The number of MCQs from this section in test of business studies is 40 while in all other tests i.e medical, engineering, arts, BS maths there are 10 in number. So those who wish to apply for business studies must be good at this portion.

The section of NUST entrance test (NET) that makes it different from all other entrance tests is the IQ part.

This IQ-section was included for the very first time in the NET 1 and 2 in the 2013-session.
Although it appears to be a very small section but it makes a big difference when you and your competitors are standing at the same score in all the other sections.
This part depends not on your intelligence I think. Its the attitude they test, your ability to solve a problem in the crisis time. So be confident during this portion and don’t get puzzled on some problem. If you are having a very good IQ but lack a control on your nerves then it is difficult for you to solve this part. So control your nerves and do it confidently.

There are three types of questions in IQ portion. If any one of you has given ISPR test before then it would be much easier to solve. However talking about the questions, you will find three types which will be solved in different ways.

First Category:

(These are not official test categories; I have made just to explain easily)
There are questions in which a sequence of alphabets is given. This sequence is random one. You will be asked that if sequence A is equal to sequence B (another sequence of alphabets),then find the relative sequence of C and that is D.

Now what you actually have to do is that find the secret coding present in alphabets, write it on page and make the next sequence according to it.

For example:
If BCDFKL stands for PENCIL, then what would KNGSDF stands for?
Now the technique is

B = P
C = E
D = N
F = C
L = I
K = L

Like this you can uncode the next sequence. (It was just an example; you can find actual questions in the test center Link : Test Center )

Second Category:

In this category you will find very long puzzle like problem. The mechanism to solve them is to make the sketch of situation on the paper.
For example:
A man standing at 0 moves 2 km North, then turns right and moves 5 km, then turns left and move 4 km and then again turns left and moves 5 km. Now tell the distance from starting point and tell the direction to which he is facing.
Now here is solution.
First of all, draw a two lines intersecting perpendicularly and mark them as North, South, East and West. Take pencil in your hand and set a zero point on paper. Read first part of statement and draw 2 km ( take it as 2 cm with scale), again read the statement and draw 5 cm line moving right and so on. When you will have drawn all according to the statement, you will find all answers infront of you. You can find direction by simply looking at the compass you have drawn.

Third Category:

It includes very easy questions.
You will be asked to pick out the odd one. It means that there are four options and you have to choose the one that does not match with other three.

For example
There are four options
a) School
b)  Club
c) College
d)  University

Now here Ans is CLUB. The reason for it is that all other three things are related to studying but a club is not study-related thing.
Similarly
There are also a bit difficult ones. But it is very easy to find out the odd ones.
That’s it.

Best of Luck for NET.

Your suggestions and queries will be warmly welcomed.

  3. There are questions with 3 boxes that have numbers in them and 1 small box has a question mark and we have to tell which number will be inside of it ... how do we solve those?

  4. U just have to sort out the relation of the four digits on either side of the box , e.g as u mentioned earlier that there are four boxes , suppose the digit on the top box is 6 and then at the bottom is 12 ,now lets come at the left box , the digit written on left box is 5 and on the write one , is 10 , there is a space in the middle , the ans would be 2 , becx here u simply divided the digits ,
    it was the easy one but similarly u can either multiply or add the digits and then fill the middle space

  5. the unknown number is obtained by performing some operation on the rest of the numbers like their sum, product etc ..
